We need a careful, resourceful, good-natured, analytical, mechanically-inclined person for repairs and maintenance.
You'll work directly with the owners and another (well-established) maintenance person, helping to perform equipment and building repairs, plan maintenance projects, and help our store managers with supply purchases, and trouble shoot equipment malfunctions (we have a well-equipped shop for portable equipment repair).
Your approach to repairs should be oriented towards best practices, quality parts/materials, aesthetics, and safety; we're not a temporary fix kind of environment.
There will also be ongoing communication with store managers and owners, and you'll have a some autonomy to schedule your day in a manner that prioritizes the most necessary repairs.
Valid driver's license required, as is a reliable vehicle; you'll need to get yourself to our stores, and back to our office/shop, as necessary (we pay for your mileage).
Employees who have had success in this position have had a wide range of experience, but they've usually exhibited substantial interest in mechanical work of various types, and have tended to take on personal projects (cars, home improvements, fix-it work etc.
) that reflect those interests.
As such, any craft or trade skills will likely be helpful, including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, electronics, welding, auto, etc.
We're not looking for a particular skillset, but you will need to know your way around a set of tools, be able to help diagnose simple-to-medium electrical and mechanical problems, and be physically able to carry boxes, climb ladders etc.
when necessary.
We need (and can offer) some flexibility in your work schedule:
you'll take turns being on-call for emergencies on weekends, and every once in a while we may need to perform off-hours maintenance (this will be rare).
We can also offer the occasional day off when scheduled ahead of time (contingent upon workload).
This position is steady, year-round work, typically averaging 40-45 hours/week (always on the clock), with no routine cleaning or landscaping, and not much seasonal downtime where you'll find yourself with little to do.
We also have a very friendly crew, and you'll be a respected and key employee.
The right applicant will have strong interpersonal skills, exhibit social maturity, and be comfortable in a substantially diverse work environment.
