ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The Intensive Case Management Intern will work closely with the ICM caseworker and Healthy Futures AmeriCorps member to assist with addressing clients' needs in their areas of vulnerability and helping them achieve their goals.
Responsibilities:
Attend volunteer/intern orientationAssist with client check-ins (over the phone or in person, as appropriate)Assist with ICM client intakes and assessmentsProvide transportation to appointments and attend appointments with clients, as appropriateCommunicate with community partners for the purpose of case coordinationExplore community resources and assist with client referralsAssist clients on an as-needed basis (this may include collecting signatures, completing paperwork, delivering items to clients' homes, bill payment, mail checks, and navigating various systems, such as medical, mental health, education, transportation, benefits, etc.
)Keep thorough and accurate case file documentation in the IRC electronic systemAssist with organizing digital filesRecord hours and submit completed timesheet for each month via the IRC's online Volunteer Dashboard QualificationsBe sensitive to the cultural and personality differences of the refugee clients.
Respect their beliefs and values, which may differ from yours.
Strong interpersonal skills and interest in working with the refugee communityOwnership of a car and a valid driver's license and car insuranceWillingness to be flexible and accommodating to client needsThis position reports to the ICM Caseworker and is unpaid.
